"An acceleration of wisdom occurs when you take action on a project. An unexpected lesson in the way the world works might seem to be a downer, but it will make more sense when you see how other people are blind to what you have seen."
other than that, i have d.c. next week; nbc.com in universal city the following week (june 9-july 31) monday through thursday!; staying in l.a. until my internship is done. INTERESTING summer it will be. OH... it WILL be.
you'd know that i enjoy blues & jazz. don't ask me names or songs cause i can't get all technical. but i do enjoy listening to that genre. there aren't many friends of mine who share this type of interest with me and if there are then we just haven't discussed this. here are two songs in this video that absolutely make my heart melt. but let's keep that between me and you. =)
got the headline from pat c.; dedicating it to ALL bammas but one in particular for now. and that's the end of that thought...
on another note: after work today i headed to fullerton. chilled with cf of all time. then after two or so years of not seeing the "34th greatest rapper of all time" and his misses, (yes, MC Speak and Jen B) i met up with nevi, john cagz, negrete, jen b.,pheo (nice to meet you),eric(nice to meet you too), and a few other people to wish a Happy Birthday to Jen. Happy Birthday Ms. Jen B. it's been a hot minute since i've seen those two and seen Speak do his thing on the stage in his Lacoste jumpoff. hahah you're crazy, negrete. Anyhow, to support Negrete I got myself an Applebird Music Foundation tee which I believe you all should not sleep on.

this also got me to thinking about fro. manny, if you will. we'd always talk about the future and these big dreams of where we see ourselves at in our careers. we'd have talks about optimism for hours and hours. he is one of my favorite motivators in striving to reach my goals/dreams in life. he's on the east right now, doin' it up out there and i'm glad he's one step closer to his dream. =)
i'm a firm believer that if you surround yourself with positive people and the type of person you'd like to be, their energy will reflect back on you. so if they have a good head on their shoulders and are on the move towards their goals... more than likely, you'll be just as motivated to be on that movement too. in other words, "you are who you hang out with". i have different groups of friends because it keeps me well-rounded and sane. plus, it helps to network in this world (especially when other people are going places).
after the jazz reggae festival at ucla on sunday, may 25 (jam day)... nevin, ashley, trey and i decided to hit up the roxy to see ?uestlove spin. these are a few pictures that i'd like to share from mr.beezwax
side note, nevi and i are NOT holding hands. hahaha. but it does look like it. anyway, super chill day. nice weather, not too cold not too hot. got to watch goapele and the roots live with good people... and to end my day with listening to some old school hip hop with ?uestlove as the DJ? you gotta be kidding me. =) awesome possum!
don't laugh. YES, i am actually going to this. my friend Amanda is super into this music and I told her I'd accompany her. =) oh, what friends do. it should be pretty interesting though. we will see!
after watching this movie, i decided to blog and laugh all you want. i'm being mad girly, but i have some thoughts about this.
i try to refrain from chick flicks for a reason. this reason being that it contributes to weakness. a weakness, in fact, that most people who have a heart have. i may go out on a limb here so please comment me if you agree or disagree.
we compare our love lives a lot to love in the movies. we almost, in a way, use love in the movies as an expectation of what we hope to have. yes, it's nice to dream big until reality B@#&$ slaps you in the face. movies are created on imagination and creativity, so let's not get that mixed up with reality. for guys who never understood the way females get all lovey dovey over chick flicks, females have HIGH hopes. don't get me wrong, there are some guys out there who actually are into chick flicks the same way (but i'll leave their names out of it). back on track, of course... give love a break with expecting love to happen like it does in the movies.
some part in the movie that i did want to highlight was after she broke it off with her fiance. he had said "i don't want to be someone you're settling with." screw the settling. something one of my good friends told me as we were listening to erykah badu's mama's gun album was "steph, don't ever settle for less, ok, or good. you deserve GREAT."
memorial day weekend. *exhale* everyone has to love three day weekends, unless of course you work in retail. =) i knocked out earlier than usual again last night. however, this time it was because my head was throbbing. sake bombs at 4:30pm, not quite a good idea. so yesterday i went to irvine spectrum and ate sushi at maki maki and then watched harold & kumar 2. i was supposed to watch indiana jones 4 but i had a feeling i might knock out so decided to watch a funny movie instead. i got back to long beach around 9ish. i really wanted to go out, but with nowhere to go and a miserable headache i decided sleeping would be best.
sundayyy heyyy, woke up pretty early. but it makes sense since i fell asleep early. should be getting ready around 1030am then head out to nevi's by 11:30am.
well, off to l.a. i go! rain or shine. someone's sleepin'.
favorite line of the moment: "they think they know squat like the leg lift." (Wale)
for those of you who know me... i'm into watching people sing and have these acoustic sessions. AND for some reason, a lot of filipinos do this. i think it's this generation's way of "karaoke" with a camera, guitar, and a good voice. this song... well, i won't explain. to quote sheena: "that dang jojo".
that time again... the end of spring semester and graduation for some. i'm so proud to see my friends graduate. blood, sweat, tears, and a struggle to get to this point. AND what a way to end this year with a party. =) i love you guys. college was that much better with you guys. coming soon: the next batch of graduates... 2009? =)
so i applied to a foundation called the T. Howard Foundation that is comprised of different host companies in the multimedia entertainment industry and connects their members to these host companies for internships and/or jobs. I applied in December and did great with numerous phone interviews. i did have my doubts, but fortunately i got accepted into the foundation as a member. at this point, i just had to wait until they could find a place for me in this huge industry.
Last month, I got a phone call from the foundation asking me for permission to send my resume to NBC/Universal. UMM... OF COURSE! The following week I received a phone call from NBC/Universal and set up a date and time for a phone interview. CHECK! Got that over with and had a good conversation. i had my doubts but who wouldn't?! they gave me a small task and i handled it. phone call again to schedule another phone interview with the NBC Director of Social Media. Conversation went pretty good again. Just yesterday I get a phone call that I got it! WOO HOO!
So what now? Well since I'm representing the T. Howard Foundation there's an orientation in Washington, D.C. from June 3rd-6th. Ahhhh! i'm so excite! hahaha yes i did realize i typed "excite" instead of "excited" because that's exactly what i told Sheena. hahahaha. I've never traveled somewhere by myself where I don't know anybody there. This is gonna be an interesting short trip. D.C. and NBC (Burbank), here I come!
to add to what i have learned this year by far:
-you have to want it to get it. (no sexual connotation intended)
at home in the living room. listening to raheem devaughn's "love behind the melody". feeling like poo-poo. not in the mood to study even though i should be right now. you know that place in the future where everything's great, not stressing about bills, smiling more often than not, and working at a job you love? wherever that place is we call it "there". well, i've been thinking. and, i want to be "there". really bad. so bad it hurts sometimes. and i wish someone knew how i felt. it's not often where someone could understand that type of feeling. i've been needing a hug (yea, cause i'm soft like that) for a while. a nice, more than 5 seconds, both arms wrapped around me, no words, enabling me to exhale, close my eyes, nestle my head on your shoulder--type of hug. sometimes i don't even need to talk about whatever it is that i was thinking about. all i need is a hug. none of this half, one arm around the side, distant, 1 second pat on the back--type hug. to quote a sticker i saw this weekend: "arms are made for hugging." and i'm out.
on another note, i liiiiike this song.
Is It Possible? by Raheem DeVaughn Question: Can a smile lead to a hello And a hello lead to a first date and a first date to a can't wait to do it again Ain't no pressure(no) Can just let love develop Get to know one another From a sister To a brother
I'm just wondering I'm just wondering If we start as friends I'm just wondering If you have a man I'm just wondering If I could be around, permanent How can I get down?
I'm just wondering What do you see When you look at me In your beliefs, Do dreams come true? Cuz I dream of you, of holding you I'm wondering...
Chorus: Is it possible For you to see That maybe you and I could be Is it possible For you to see That maybe you said I could be Say it's possible For you to see that maybe you and I could be Is it possible To be logical For you to see that we could be
2nd verse: Patience, I was born with plenty So if and when you're ready Have some faith girl And we can step out on faith Cuz baby I'm not your everyday, average man Spittin everyday, average lust Or rehearse girl. I speak the truth at all times So if you're wonderin, (if) This is too far feteched If you're wonderin, this is no conquest To love you, then leave you there, so I'm wondering, wondering
