Idea!

So, my ying (the cousin Sheena) and I (her yang) decided that we should start our own blog together STRICTLY for our mobile uploads. We tend to take pictures on our camera phones A LOT because we always seem to come across the weirdest things. So if you end up actually going on our blogspot, you will see what random things we have seen and decided to share with the world. Often times, these pictures speak for themselves and other times we simply add some funny commentary to it. It may be funny to us, but not you... And frankly, we could care less. Look out for it soon though. The name of the blog has yet to be determined, but I just thought I'd give you all the heads up.

Tease

So I was starving this morning and decided to get something from the vending machine at work before I sat in my 3 hour staff meeting at 930am. Uhhhh, this is what happened. I swear, vending machines don't like me because this type of thing happens A LOT. It's like I have to prepare myself for a disappointment regardless if the snack I want is at the very top row or the very bottom. It's an unofficial battle every time, but geez! So, I then try to buy something else that will hit it and push it through. And, the trail mix that I thought would do the trick, ended up laying on top of the bag of chips. I swear I kept pushing that door a million times for my trail mix to fall through. But, NOOOOOO, not the bag of chips. AHHHH! When I'm hungry, I'm hungry! I put a sticky note on the machine just in case my bag of chips decided to fall down and I wrote down my office number and my extension. When I got out of my meeting, my bag of chips were sitting on my desk! Hah! Thanks good citizen! Yea yea yea, I know I'm corny.

how do you know?

a friend of mine asked "how do YOU know when you love someone?" and my response is this. HAHAHAHA. considering i'm anti-love at the moment but am happy for him, i didn't want to be a Debbie Downer. =) thumbs up! but honestly, it was tough to answer this because i haven't thought about how it is to be in love in a while.

anyways, it's a good question though. at least for those who have been in love before or are in love. anybody care to share their answer?

Could YOU be loved?

Could you be loved and be loved?
Could you be loved and be loved?

Don't let them fool ya,
Or even try to school ya! oh, no!
We've got a mind of our own,
So go to hell if what you're thinking is not right!
Love would never leave us alone,
A-yin the darkness there must come out to light.

Could you be loved and be loved?
Could you be loved, wo now! - and be loved?

(the road of life is rocky and you may stumble too,
So while you point your fingers someone else is judging you)
Love your brotherman!
(could you be - could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be loved? )

Don't let them change ya, oh! -
Or even rearrange ya! oh, no!
We've got a life to live.
They say: only - only -
Only the fittest of the fittest shall survive -
Stay alive! eh!

Could you be loved and be loved?
Could you be loved, wo now! - and be loved?

(you ain't gonna miss your water until your well runs dry;
No matter how you treat him, the man will never be satisfied.)
Say something! (could you be - could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be loved? )
Say something! say something!
(could you be - could you be - could you be loved? )
Say something! (could you be - could you be loved? )
Say something! say something! (say something!)
Say something! say something! (could you be loved? )
Say something! say something! reggae, reggae!
Say something! rockers, rockers!
Say something! reggae, reggae!
Say something! rockers, rockers!
Say something! (could you be loved? )
Say something! uh!
Say something! come on!
Say something! (could you be - could you be - could you be loved? )
Say something! (could you be - could you be loved? )
Say something! (could you be - could you be - could you be loved? )
Say something! (could you be - could you be loved? ) /fadeout/

meet cute.

(just watched the Holiday)
Wikipedia references a "meet cute": ...In the film The Holiday (2006), Eli Wallach's character Arthur Abbott (a retired Hollywood screenwriter) described a meet-cute by saying "Say a man and a woman both need something to sleep in and both go to the same men's pajama department. The man says to the salesman Ted, I just need bottoms, and the woman says, I just need a top. They look at each other and that's the meet-cute."

so they do exist!

i was having a conversation with an old high school friend about his dating experience living in vegas and my dating experience overall. he said the following that made me smile and think to myself so there are guys who think this way?....

"I'd really like a girl that i can just talk to about anything.. whether it be about football or..politics.. or just life in general.. just a girl that's about something.. i dunno.. i don't really meet too many i can say that about"

it'd be nice...

to just sit and watch some t.v. together. don't you think?

gimme, gimme, gimme!

hahahahaha! i know you're probably shaking your head in disappointment but i mean COMM-ON! haha i mean COME ON! i love him. I need to get this issue like yesterday!

I wish He was givin' me THE EYE...

pause! i found this vid on buzzcuts. i was at this show with brother last month at the grove in anaheim. free tickets from kathy & ray. =) oh my!

now, tell me this isn't the flyest (yes, i said "flyest") chorus that you've heard thus far:

hey baby, am i crazy?
or was you givin' me THE EYE?
you say maybe?
well you crazy
because i know i'm too fly
i 'ready know i'm too fly
i 'ready know i'm too fly

"take it home" notes

i was looking at some notes i took throughout the summer and i found some that were interesting. some were mostly advice from professionals in the entertainment industry to newbies that eventually will take their jobs in, give or take, 10 years? and others were just tips for interns. so, to my dear readers, enjoy:

be present in the present.
ask questions.
understand how each person's role fits.
do your job.
be engaged.
be committed.
show up.
find new ways.
perception is reality.
know HR.
don't assume.
ask for clarity.

a few notes from TWC (Time Warner Cable):
excellent performance comes out of confidence; confidence comes out of excellent performance.
know yourself.
do your research.

respect others.
put yourself in their shoes.
believe you are supposed to be where you are.
share. get involved.
don't let the box you check box you out. (referring to what ethnicity or gender you are and being a minority in the workforce)
don't alienate yourself.
align yourself.
if you need to know something, just ask.
be ready.
make a list of people you want to meet. (once you establish an internship)

the next few refer to dress code:
spend $ to make $.
don't dress where you are, dress where you want to be.
if you don't feel it, don't force it. (PPPAAAUUUSSEE)

technique is important, but style is critical. (referring to a company's style of writing)
the power of the English language is strong enough to use it less.
the most difficult skill is to learn how to LISTEN.
read.
some people improve, some don't.
editors are critical. never judge them.
have a second set of eyes on everything you write.
read everything out loud.
check all your facts.
imagine.
solve.
build.
lead.
keep your contacts.
don't burn bridges.

so, yea, they were all scattered; but mind you, they were notes. i wasn't going to organize them. sheesh. i jotted these down back in the beginning of june and i just barely looked back on them today. time flies, but there's a reason why i decided to write all of those down specifically. i'm sure my thoughts now aren't the same exact thoughts i was thinking back when i wrote them down, but the fact that i did jot them down got me thinking. now some of these sayings can relate to any aspect of life, being at the workplace, in relationships, in friendships, day to day situations, or what have you. language is powerful. we use and abuse language everyday ; and we never realize how whatever we may have said impacted someone's life in some way, shape, or form...positively or negatively. (1) when we think, then (2) we say what we think, and then (3) we do what we think. not all the time do we do what we think, but at least the first two steps are inevitable. ummm, i forgot where i was going with this, but HEY! new thought!

in the workshops that i facilitate or any oral presentations that i conduct, i always try to leave my audience with something to "take home" with them off of something i said. so, in many of my presentations to the students that i speak to, i often say "if there's one thing that i want you to remember after you walk out of this classroom, it's this..." in which case i then insert some amazing and awe-inspiring message that i hope helps them in life, in general. why, you ask? because i was fortunate to have the opportunity to listen to wonderful motivational speakers throughout high school to today. and when i watch them interact with their audiences and when i listen to what they have to say (because, believe me, EVERYONE has a story)...i'll remember one important message that they were trying to get across, basically the "moral" of the story, and i've taken it home with me. some friends have told me how they're inspired by me or how they admire my work or, really, life ethic that i have... but really my mentality comes from my gathering these "morals" of each story (whether they be from actual motivational speakers, family members, long-time friends, or even new friends). i learn from the people i surround myself with and from the people i just so happen to meet along the way or journey we call "life".

at any rate, thanks for reading this far. if it doesn't make sense, it doesn't. who am i to tell you otherwise? but if it does, i'm glad. =)

on another note, i made a 13 yr. old boy student of mine happy the other day. and NO, not like that! you pervert! he loves to skateboard and i haven't put my skateboard to use in a very long time so i gave it to him. the area that he lives in is labeled as "high at-risk/low income families"... and as sad as communities are labeled as such...well, it just sucks. his face lit up though. =) good deed, indeed.

don't laugh, but...

this song popped in my head right now.

Bilingual

These little girls kept on speaking in spanish but then pretended like they just met and repeated "good afternoon carmen" and "good afternoon yessica". I think they were pretending to be the teacher. Cause they were saying "put your pens down and sit down on the seats". Damn, did we play like this when we were this little? Oh how time flew!!!

What not having siblings does to kids

This little girl was wildin' out with some dance moves on the basketball court pole. I'm not sure if you guys can see her but little beezy has one hand on the pole and is swinging. Smh. She was doing other stuff like the robot and mind you school is out and no one else was on the blacktop. This defines "dance like nob ody's watching".

So what was I doing here? Hey hey hey! I'm not a creeper! I had just parked at one of my middle school sites for a 5pm meeting and was checking my phone.

hypocrisy

...is defined as such...

hypocrisy
: (noun) the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense.

i was thinking about this word while i was in traffic today from work to school. i totally forgot about a presentation i asked to present for the ad club tonight. no worries though, it's probably gonna be quick anyway. i need to talk about the T. Howard foundation and the upcoming deadline to apply for next summer. (so, it doesn't matter what major you are or what degree you're getting, the multimedia & entertainment industry is interested in you! go to www.t-howard.org! the deadline is december 31,2008!...you like my plug?)

back on topic. from a single female perspective: we put this big, bad, tough head on our shoulders of what we want in life, love, and our pursuit of happiness. well, at least for those who have an idea of what they want or goal in life. so in this blog entry, i'll really be referring to relationships. hah! such a chick thing to talk about. who cares, right? but ya know... females think about this a lot, whether or not they like to. cause our feelings are more sensitive to us than they are to men.

as i was saying, we put this big, bad head on our shoulders like no guy is worth our time and if he is he has to prove it somehow, some way. this idea of putting such effort into some type of relationship beyond just a friendship has set some sort of a double standard. so, i'll say this:

-there are some females who believe they should live up to being the damsel in distress and some MAGICAL day their prince charming will bump into them at the grocery store. he'll open the doors, ask her out properly, wait a couple of dates in order to take it elsewhere (if ya know what i mean), start going to family parties, and do routine buddy-buddy activities (e.g. movies, zoo, concerts which then turn into just killin' time together by running errands). yadda yadda. you should be catching my drift by now.

-there are some females who get wrapped up in focusing on school or work that they never fall into the cracks of getting caught up in the lovey dovey fairytale or relationships and ever afters. (and i applaud this group for their major focus; but damn release some tension). but then they end up being newbies to relationships when they're done with school or get tired of work. (you can add on to this description of females if you feel the need to...i'm letting you)

-there are the head-strong females who balance both. they make time for school, work, and a possible prospect(s) or maybe no prospects at all. but in this case, we'll say she dates. meets guys, with a friendship in mind and a few come around to take it a little further into getting to know her. she has an idea of what she wants in a guy: gentleman, great personality, fun,

but, i've never done this before?

hahahaha. the title just sounds so wrong. hahahaha. i can't say too much detail in this, because i just can't. but i am giggling so baaaad from this weekend.

i went to vegas to meet up some oldie but goodie friends. jameal flew in from louisville; jay and andrea flew in from seattle; amy and ashley flew in from long beach; britt and chris drove in from riverside; ricky and his friends drove in from moreno valley; and i, of course, drove in from fullerton right after my midterm at 9am like a freakin' CHAMP. it was ricky's first time in vegas being 21 and, i think, (jay tell me if i'm wrong) but jay's and andrea's first too. =) i also got to see familiar faces and some interesting, new ones... (long pause) ANYWAYS, it was fun. good times, guys!

also, i think it took this weekend to realize that i am officially a blackberry addict. yes, i must admit this. all of the guys were getting mad at the fact that i was on my phone the majority of the time that i was there, but what's funny is that the girls didn't care one bit. so HAH! guys, you were just jealous i wasn't paying attention to y'all. (evil eye). i was there though! geez. appreciate!

you know, when you come across interesting and entertaining conversations.. you can't help but be hooked on it like it's a game. and, in this case, it was the most entertaining game that i've played in a long time... or, maybe, at all. not "the" ultimate one; but definitely one that i enjoyed. it might even just be left at that. and if so, (shrugging shoulders) i just gotta keep it moving. but if it's something else, well then HEEEYYYY! hah! i need to stop. K.I.M. all day, baby!

playing catch up

I was in vegas all weekend (from friday @ 2pm til sunday) and I missed my sister/roommate. Throughout the week, we're both busy to the point where when I get home she's either knocked out already or I'm too tired and knock out myself. Anyways, anybody who knows me and my sisters know that we can talk for DAYS. well, at least erica. haha, val and i keep it to a minimum. but, we're each others' ventilation system about pretty much anything in our lives. so anyways, i took her to yogurtland versus getting starbucks and we sit and play catch up with our lives. and well, as you can tell in the picture, we were both on our phones and not talking to each other. haha. but anyways, "hi my name is stephanie and i'm a crackberry addict". class, work, class tomorrow. fun...

Ohhh, long beach!

Long beach gets down, do you? I'm sitting here at a small table waiting for my friend to fly in. He needed a ride home and I was able to help. Although, he told me 6 and it is now 6:36pm. Maybe he didn't know or they switched it up on him. The next flight coming in from the bay doesn't come in until 7:19pm. Soooo, I guess I'll wait until then to confirm when I should leave. I mean, I'm not that far from the long beach airport if he hits me up later. I'm just trying not to exceed that 2 hour max. Short term parking. Know what I mean? Airports these days... Smh.

And smh to this guy who's on his phone with his "sweetheart". (Please say that in a new york accent because he is). He's super short too. I can take him. One of those guys with a nice voice and accent, but you look at him and its like "ya gotta be kiddin' me". He calls his girl "ma". Cute, I guess. But one thing I've learned is that grown men call many females sweet names whether they're girlfriends or girl friends. There's a difference. Yes, there is. Space or no space; differentiate. Names: ma, babe, or beb, sweetie, hun, cutie, etc. However, "baby" is different. I think.
